About Lokenburg Farm
Established in 1774, Lokenburg was the first farm in its district to receive title deeds, marking it as a pioneer in the region’s agricultural development.
The farm has hosted six generations, each leaving behind a unique dwelling—creating a rare architectural timeline of rural life. These buildings form a “living narrative” of Cape Dutch and vernacular styles, including a T-shaped homestead built in 1874.
Located in the Uye Vallei, south of Nieuwoudtville, the farm is surrounded by untouched landscapes known for their springtime floral splendor and diverse bulb species.
In 1992, Lokenburg was chosen as the filming location for the award-winning Afrikaans TV series Die Manakwalanners, further cementing its cultural significance.
Today, Lokenburg remains an active working farm, cultivating lavandin, rosemary, rooibos tea, and hosting guests in its historic homestead
